Black bear uses Sierra-at-Tahoe chairlift to scratch its head.

Black bears are a frequent sight in the Tahoe area, varying in color from brown to black. The cinnamon color tends to be one of the most popular in Nevada and California, with a white patch occasionally appearing on their chest.

While sightings of brown black bears aren’t uncommon, it’s important to note that grizzly bears (which many people associate with the brown color) have been extinct from California since the 1920s. The only grizzly that remains in the state is the one on their flag.

This black bear took advantage of one of Sierra-at-Tahoe‘s many chairlifts, using the chair to get a good scratch in.
