Wakeboarding Maui's Jaws Surf Break.
Wakeboarding Maui's Jaws Surf Break.

Wakeboards are not designed for surfing big waves. They’re often made of heavier materials, significantly smaller and less stable, and are designed to be pulled behind a boat at high speeds. But if you can manage to pick up the speed and stay in control, you could theoretically surf a wave on a wakeboard.

You’d have to be pretty darn good at surfing to pull off something like that, but Kai Lenny is pretty darn good at surfing. In fact he’s likely among the best big wave surfers active today, so if anyone is qualified to take a wakeboard on Maui’s largest surf break, the legendary Jaws Surf Break, it’s probably him.
