8 dogs abandoned in a Colorado State Park have been given a new chance at a happy life thanks to Humane Colorado.

According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the 8 pups were abandoned at the Piedra River fishing access in Navajo State Park. They were discovered on June 15th and CPW subsequently closed the area until they could get them rounded up.

After nobody came forward to claim the animals for a week, the state park built a temporary pen and provided both food and water.

Neighboring shelters in Colorado and New Mexico were all full and unable to take more animals, but Humane Colorado San Luis Valley Animal Center stepped in and offered space for the dogs.

If you’re looking to give these dogs a home, call the San Luis Valley Animal Center at 719-212-6500. CPW plans to bring them back jars of peanut butter while the Navajo State Park team is chipping in cash donations.
