Just over 30 people were left suspended high above the dry slopes of Snowbird around 4:30pm on Thursday, June 19th, after the red aerial tram came to a sudden halt during its descent.

According to KSL TV 5 there were 31 people onboard at the time including 14 children. Monica Stewart, who wound up stuck on the tram with her family, said that the staff was at one point considering rappelling people to the ground.

The stop was due to the emergency stop system activating without warning. Mechanics were dispatched to the scene immediately and all safety systems functioned as designed. An inspection conducted Thursday night showed no issues in the tram system.

About 50 people were apparently still on the mountain when the tram came to a stop and Snowbird used the blue tram car and the Peruvian chair lift to bring down those remaining.

Cheers to the crews who kept everyone safe and got everything back up and running during the incident.
