Now that we’re in the hotter months of the year, the entire country is sure to be covered in construction projects from East to West. There are plenty of ways a state could announce their planned projects for the summer, but the Washington State Department of Transportation‘s method is almost certainly the best.
117 major projects over thousands of miles will take place in Washington throughout the summer of 2025, and that doesn’t include the day-to-day maintenance, emergencies, and local city and county projects. So yes, if you’re headed to a game, festival, concert, or just generally road tripping in the state, you’re probably going to encounter some road work.
There’s only 14 days between now and September 30 where there isn’t a major event happening in Washington, so if you ever find yourself wondering “why did they choose to do this work on the day of this major event”, it’s likely because they had no other choice. Plus any construction has to be done during the warm and dry months as concrete can’t cure in the rain. So yes, there will be congestion and delays along the roads. Consider taking bikes, buses, trains, and light rail instead.
