Recycling at Schweitzer.
Recycling at Schweitzer.

There are a large number of factors that go into running a sustainable ski resort, from running efficient technology to using clean energy to ensuring that the mountain stays free of garbage. Idaho’s Schweitzer Mountain has done a lot to operate in a sustainable manner, including the addition of EV charging stations, the use of electric snowmobiles, the replacement of slope lighting with more sustainable options, and much more.

Every step is important to ensuring a sustainable mountain, and that includes making sure bottles and cans are properly recycled. Makayla Sundquist works as Schweitzer’s recycling technician, going through can by can to ensure that they can be recycled without contaminating a batch before brining them to the recycling plant.
