A Colorado backcountry skier has the joint effort of six different departments to thank for their rescue after falling 200 feet on Torrey’s Peak.

The skier suffered a lower leg injury in the fall near the top of Emperors couloir and came to a stop above a cliff band. 6 field teams were inserted by ground to ascend over 2500 feet of snow and rock to reach the injured skier. While the teams climbed, Mission Coordinators worked with CSAR to request helicopter hoist based on the patient’s injuries and location.

The patient was successfully hoisted by a Flight For Life Colorado helicopter at 7:00pm and all members of the rescue party were out of the field by 10:00pm.

Shout out to all departments involved including Flight For Life Colorado, Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office, Clear Creek Fire Authority, Clear Creek EMS, Colorado Department of Transportation, Colorado Search and Rescue Association – CSAR, Colorado National Guard, and Jeffcom 911.
