Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park has officially opened for the season, allowing visitors to travel the 48 miles between Estes Park on the park’s east side and Grand Lake on the west. Timed Entry Reservations are required for access to Trail Right Road between 9am and 2pm.
Drivers are encouraged to be prepared for icy conditions with melting snow on the road and potential freezing temperatures. Nightly closures will not be implemented at this time, but weather conditions may change rapidly at higher elevations and travel plans should be adjusted accordingly.
Visitors can call the park’s Trail Ridge Road recorded status phone line at (970) 586-1222 for updates when/if the road status changes. The Alpine Visitor Center and the Trail Ridge Store are currently closed to all users. Those caught entering any closure area will be cited.
Trail Ridge Road typically opens in late May, opening on May 31 last year. Its earliest opening in history was on May 7, 2002, while the latest was on June 26, 1943. Rocky Mountain National Park does use a timed entry reservation system during certain times of the day. Learn more about the reservation system here.
