Mountain biking down the Midsundtrappene.
Mountain biking down the Midsundtrappene.

Mountain biking legends Rémy Métailler and Geoff Gulevich took a trip to the west coast of Norway to ride some stunning and difficult routes in the Hustadvika municipality. They met up with local riders Thomas Klingenberg and Asbjørn Eggebø Næss to hit a few different routes, including some that they never intend to ride again.

While many of these routes were intense trails, it was the 3,292 stone steps of the Midsundtrappene that marked the highlight of the trip. While it made for some incredible footage, Norrøna does not recommend trying it yourself and authorities have since discouraged riding on the stairs. Consider hiking it instead if you happen to visit!

We stopped in Molde and got a ride with incredible vistas over Romsdalen and Sunnmøre across the fjord, but the unplanned main attraction became the Midsund stairs. A good bad idea of riding one of the longest stairs in the world, the 3 292 stairs of Midsundtrappene. Some of the world’s best mountain bikers got a real challenge on these stairs and we do not recommend that anyone else do the same. Authorities have since discouraged riding on the stairs. Enjoy the hike instead!
