Beartooth Basin Summer Ski Area.
Beartooth Basin Summer Ski Area.

Most ski areas in the United States are either already closed or are preparing to close, with just a handful of ski resorts still open across the country. But one U.S. ski area is set to open this holiday weekend, specifically on Memorial Day, May 26.

Beartooth Basin Summer Ski Area is located along Beartooth Highway near Cody, Wyoming, limiting its operations to summer only. Beartooth Highway does not get plowed throughout the winter so accessing the mountain during the winter months isn’t possible.

The ski area offers 600 acres of skiing and snowboarding varying in pitch from 15 to 50 degrees. It has 1,000 vertical feet of terrain services by two poma surface lifts, reaching an altitude of 10,900 feet at its summit. Taking on the Twin Lakes Headwall requires advanced intermediate/expert ski or snowboard skills.

Beartooth Basin will be open from May 26 to July 6 if the snow and weather allows. Spring plowing and maintenance is currently active on Beartooth Highway as a joint operation between the Montana Department of Transportation and the National Park Service.

Beartooth Basin is currently up for sale. Those interested in acquiring the ski area can inquire by emailing beartoothbasin@gmail.com.
