Mt. Bachelor’s parent company Powdr Corp is planning major infrastructure upgrades after retaining ownership of the Oregon ski resort to address ongoing issues with its electrical power supply.

The Oregonian reports ski area will install 12 miles of new power lines connecting it to Sunriver which will double its electricity capacity from 5 to 10 megawatts. A backup auxiliary power source will also be added for redundancy. The existing system is several decades old and the improvements are scheduled to be completed by next summer.

Another energy upgrade underway at Mt. Bachelor with the continued construction of a biomass facility that will convert forest debris into heat and hot water, reducing the resort’s propane use by two-thirds. The facility is set to be completed by the end of summer 2025 and go operational by September 2026.
