7 people were killed after a Dodge Ram pickup truck and a tour van crashed into eachother near Yellowstone National Park on May 1.

According to the Idaho State Police, the accident occured on eastbound U.S. Highway 20 near Henry’s Lake, just outside the national park. ISP troopers responded to the collision at milepost 399 around 7:15pm.

The Mercecedes passenger van caught fire following the crash. Six of the fourteen individuals in the van and the pickup driver all tragically died as a result of the crash. One air ambulance and additional air and ground resources were dispatched to the scene.

Due to the magnitude of the incident and the ongoing process of notifying the next of kin, no names, ages, hometowns, or nationalities have been released. Once available, the Fremont County Coroner’s Office will provide information.” – Idaho State Police

U.S. Highway 20 was fully closed while emergency responders and the Idaho Transportation Department cleared the roadway and managed the scene. The road remained fully closed for about seven hours and is now open for regular traffic.

The cause of the collision is currently under investigation. More information will be released as it becomes available.
