After 58 years of faithfully delivering skiers and riders to the top of Alpental the iconic “Chair 2” Riblet double will be replaced a new Doppelmayr fixed-grip triple chair during the summer of 2025. The new lift will increase uphill capacity, reduce lift lines and provided improved terrain access.

Although the resort is updating with a new triple, they are retaining the existing top station and patrol building so “a piece of the historic lift’s character will live on.” Alpental just posted the following video documenting their progress:

Alpental Progress Update:

Things are starting to look a bit different up here! Many of Chair 2’s components have been taken down and are now being sorted for recycling — while more and more parts of the new chairlift are starting to arrive.

Where does all that material go?

Lumber from ramps and lift houses is being repurposed for other buildings and projects, while towers will find new life as park features, lighting structures, and more. The remaining materials are being sorted and recycled in partnership with @dtgrecycle. One dumpster is dedicated solely to metal, while others handle mixed construction materials like wood, Sheetrock, and insulation. Our goal is to landfill as little as possible — nearly everything from the old lift is being reused or recycled.

Keep an eye out for details on how you can get your hands on a chair. We’re still finalizing some details. We haven’t forgotten about ya!
