Snowbird is known for its serious airs, ranging from small, poppy kickers to truly massive cliff drops. It would be pretty difficult to point to one jump and say definitively that it’s the hardest on the mountain, but that’s what KJ Read has done.
Read specifically points towards Flying Squirrel, a quite large air accessible off Mid-Baldy Traverse. The air typically stretches between 40-60 feet down and 40-60 feet out. There are a couple of reasons he points to it as the most difficult. It’s a blind in-run that’s covered in bumps, features a pretty rough takeoff, and has a fairly flat landing. Plus, unless there’s plenty of snow to cover up the trees in the landing, it’s not even possible to attempt.
Read worked with his buddy Alec Finke to attempt the massive air this winter. It’s seems pretty clear from the video that the best way to land this drop is by making sure you’ve got some seriously strong legs and are really willing to commit.
