Denali National Park and Preserve has opened the Park Road to private vehicles as far as the Teklanika Rest Area at Mile 30 as of Friday, April 25. Low snow levels and warmer weather have assisted in the spring road crew’s effort to clear and open the Denali Park Road, though visitors should be aware that they may still encounter snow, ice, and mud on the road.
The Park Road will remain open until May 19 as long as weather permits. Then, on May 20, the road will close to private vehicles at Mile 15, the Savage River, and transit busses will start operations for the season. Campgrounds west of park headquarters will remain closed until May 20.
The Teklanika Rest Area at Mile 40 is still wet but is accessible, and restrooms at Teklanika, the Savage River, and Mountain Vista will all be open to the public. Heavy equipment traffic should be expected from the park entrance to East Fork for the Pretty Rocks bridge project.
Several other closures should be expected throughout the park, including all entry from the East Fork Bridge to the Polychrome Overlook location. Up to date information on park roads and park closures can be found here.
