New Hampshire — After over 35 years of service, the oldest high-speed chairlift in New Hampshire is being replaced by a modern lift.
Yesterday, Bretton Woods announced that the Bethlehem Express Quad (also referred to as BEQ) will be replaced this offseason. The new chairlift will be a Leitner Poma detachable high-speed quad that can carry 1800 people per hour, but it will be a shorter ride. The base terminal will be around 75 feet above its current location, leading to less congestion around the base area. The top terminal will be situated around 75 feet below its current location, allowing for an easier offloading area for less experienced skiers.
“We are beyond excited to introduce the BEQ II as part of our ongoing commitment to providing consistent, reliable, and safe lift operations for our guests,” said Alexa Bernotavicz, Assistant Director of Ski Operations at Bretton Woods. “This project marks a big step forward in our effort to elevate the skiing and snowboarding experience here at Bretton Woods.”
That’s not the only big project happening this offseason, as a new glade will be sculpted near the Rosebrook Lodge. The new black diamond glade will be situated between the Upper Swoop and Upper Express trails.

Located near the historic Omni Mt. Washington Resort & Spa, Bretton Woods is the largest ski resort in the state of New Hampshire. The ski resort is well-regarded for its grooming and snowmaking efforts. While it caters primarily to families, its extensive glade network makes it a worthwhile visit for more tenured skiers and riders. The views of Mt. Washington aren’t bad, either.
Bretton Woods just wrapped up its ski season on April 13th. Some of their offseason activities include scenic gondola rides, hiking trails, and a zipline canopy tour.
