Sidewall is a factor that most people probably don’t think much about when it comes to picking a new pair of skis or a snowboard, but it can be pretty darn important. Sandwich construction is easily the most common type, pressing strips of dense plastic onto the outside edges of the skis to protect the core of the skis.
Several companies focus on the cap construction, instead. With cap construction, the top sheet of the ski is folded over the sides of the skis to protect the core. With no sidewall material, these skis and snowboards are often a lot lighter than the alternatives.
With that cap construction comes a host of facts and myths surrounding their cost and durability, and Voile has set out to divide fact from fiction.
