Olympic National Park is seeking volunteers for an April 19 coastal cleanup as part of the Washington Coastal Cleanup effort. Both volunteers and park employees will work to remove marine debris from the wild coastlines near Mora and Kalaloch.
Walk-up registration will be available, but it’s not guaranteed. Registration tables at the Mora and Kalaloch trailheads will be open between 7am and 11am on April 19, with the cleanup event running until 5pm that day. Those who wish to register ahead of time can do so on Volunteer.gov by Saturday, April 6, at 11pm PDT.
Volunteers will be required to hike several miles to reach their cleanup site before collecting trash and carrying it back to the trailheads. As motor vehicles are prohibited on park beaches, all litter will have to be removed on foot.
Pre-registered volunteers will have access to free frontcountry camping in the Kalaloch Campground. Back in April of 2024, 133 volunteers collected garbage, tied buoys and float to framed backpacks, and removed trash from park beaches on foot. Some were so committed that they even rolled automobile tires to the trailheads.
“These committed stewards helped preserve the fragile coastal ecosystems within Olympic National Park. Join the effort and help keep the park’s stunning coastline clean and beautiful by signing up today!” – Olympic National Park
