Wild scenes from British Columbia where Fernie Alpine Resort ski patrol delayed the opening of The Currie Bowl for avalanche mitigation operations. As word got out that their work was coming to completion and the opening was imminent, skiers and snowboarders began lining up for the rope drop.

If you are unfamiliar with the concept of a ski resort rope drop, it is the moment when ski patrol give the all clear that a section of a mountain can be safely ridden and it often leads to all out feeding frenzy of powder hungry skiers and snowboarders jockeying for fresh turns.

As you can see from these videos posted by Fernie ski patrol, yesterday’s rope drop at Currie Bowl was spicy. It can get quite competitive and chaotic but its incredible to witness and memorable to participate in.
