New Hampshire — This past weekend, one season ended for the Mt. Washington Auto Road, and work towards the next one began.
Last Sunday, the Mt. Washington Auto Road wrapped up its winter season, which is headlined by the Snowcoach. These four-track vehicles travel up through the snow to the summit of Mt. Washington. The last Snowcoach of the 2024-25 season occurred this past Sunday.
With winter operations wrapped up, work has now begun on clearing the snow and ice on the Mt. Washington Auto Road. They picked a good time to start this work. Sunday and Monday brought sizeable rainfall to New Hampshire, resulting in rapid snowmelt. Snow groomers have taken to the Auto Road to begin clearing snow, which will continue in the weeks ahead. While they’ve seen some recent snowmelt, they’ll likely see some snow in the days ahead.
The Mt. Washington Auto Road is scheduled to open to vehicles in early May 2025.
