Human remains discovered by Park Rangers and a member of the Black Canyon Search and Rescue Team in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park are believed to be those of missing person Jordan Marsters.

Marsters was reported missing to the Denver Police Department by family members on February 15 and search efforts began in the national park after Park Rangers found clues placing him there.

Efforts are currently underway to recover the remains for positive identification by the medical examiner’s office, with the location’s complexity making the operation more difficult. Black Canyon of the Gunnison is reaching out to nearby parks who have the extreme technical skill sets to help with the recovery. A specific location of the remains will not be provided until they’ve been recovered.

The Montrose Police Department, Montrose County Sheriffs Office, Denver Police Department, Montrose County Posse Search and Rescue Volunteers, Friends of Black Canyon Search and Rescue Volunteers, and Slavin Private Investigations all assisted in the search. The National Park Service thanks their partners for the assistance and support.

The death is believed to be unwitnessed and is currently under investigation. Our thoughts go out to the friends and family of the deceased at this time.
