Skier Jan Farrell is involved in a discipline slightly different than what most of us are used to. Rather than hitting massive airs or flying down slalom courses, Farrell is purely focused on raw speed.
The speed skiing world record was set by Simon Billy, reaching an unbelievable speed of 255.5 km/h (158.76 mph). Jan Farrell’s record topped out at 231.66 km/h, or around 143.95 mph. In the below video he reaches just around 180 km/h, or about 111 mph. Still a pretty wild speed to reach on skis.
For reference, the top men’s downhill skiers typically clock maximum speeds in 75-95mph range, so this is another ~15ish mph faster than downhill racers. I think I’ve personally topped out around 60mph. As a disclaimer, please do not try speed skiing. That’s how you hurt yourself and others.
