“Miracle March” is actively hammering California with some serious snowfall (Mammoth Mountain woke up to 23 inches of new snow in the last 24 hours). While the state certainly has the best powder in the country right now, packing your bags and booking a flight to Utah wouldn’t be a bad idea either. Throughout the day today and into this weekend, Utah’s ski resorts are expecting to see some serious snowfall of their own.

According to the National Weather Service, the Wasatch Mountains south of I-80 (including Alta, Brighton, Snowbird, and Solitude) can expect heavy snowfall between today, March 13, and 6pm MDT on Friday, March 14. Total accumulations are expected to sit between 10-18 inches, but local totals could reach between 2 to 3 feet in the Upper Cottonwoods.

Snowbird’s morning snow report, released at 7:10am MDT this morning, forecasts between 7 and 19 inches BEFORE 5pm today. Meanwhile Alta’s weather report forecasts 9 inches of new snow throughout the day today. As an important note, that snow comes with potentially high winds, with Snowbird forecasting gusts up to 65mph.

Around Park City, the National Weather Service is forecasting locally higher amounts of snowfall between 5 and 7 inches between today and 12pm MDT tomorrow, with 1-3 inches expected around the Wasatch Back. The Park City Mountain forecast is predicting between 4-8 inches of snowfall throughout the day today.

As always with this heavy snowfall, travel only if absolutely necessary and ensure that your vehicle is winter ready. Utah has specific traction laws for specific road conditions. Ensure that your vehicle is compliant with the UDOT laws.
