If you’re hoping to book a wilderness backpacking trip in Rocky Mountain National Park this summer, you’d better start making your plans now! Online reservations for all Wilderness Overnight Backpacking permits for the 2025 summer season go on sale this Saturday, March 1, at 8 a.m. MST.

Booking trips for small groups (1-7 people) and large groups (8-12 people) will be available on the Rocky Mountain National Park’s page on Recreation.gov by clicking the “Check Availability” feature on the Wilderness Permits page. You’ll be asked to select the starting area that corresponds with your desired site, fill in you desired start date, and enter the total number of people in your group.

As an important note, all scented items must be kept in a hard-sided, lockable, commercially manufactured carry in/out bear-resistant food storage canister that you provide while in Rocky Mountain National Park. Additionally, campfires are strictly prohibited throughout the park.

Looking for more information on Rocky Mountain National Park? Visit www.nps.gov/romo or call the park’s Information Office at (970) 586-1206.
