Colorado — It’s become a deadly period in the backcountry for Colorado skiers and riders. On February 20th, a skier was killed in an avalanche near Silverton. Then, on Saturday, two more avalanches occurred, one of which was fatal.
On February 22nd, a rider (in particular, a powsurfer/snowsurfer) was captured, buried, and killed by an avalanche on Mines Peak. The area, known as The Fingers or High Trail Cliffs, is a series of steep, rocky chutes that are accessed by going to the parking lot at the summit of Berthoud Pass. Colorado Avalanche Info listed the slide as a Persistent Slab avalanche.

The individual has been identified as Nathan Ginn, who was an avid snowsurfer. Many riders, including Grassroots Powsurf, have paid tribute to him since his passing.
Another avalanche occurred in Colorado on Saturday on Gravel Mountain. Four snowmobilers were captured and partially buried. Luckily, they survived.
Colorado Avalanche’s Info statement is below. They plan to release more information on the slide when they visit the scene.
