Avalanche warnings and avalanche closures exist on mountains for a reason. Yes, closures are treated differently in Europe than they are in North America, but that doesn’t mean you should ignore them without considering the consequences.
These snowboarders claim they took a “calculated risk” when they went into an area that was closed due to significant avalanche danger. Depending on the resort, they might not have been breaking any rules, but the lack of avalanche gear makes it pretty clear that they weren’t calculating anything.
Fortunately these guys didn’t trigger an avalanche, but they put themselves, rescuers, and others that might be below them in danger by riding the trail. Maybe they’re just making it up, and they didn’t actually enter high avalanche terrain. In which case they’re just encouraging dangerous behavior. Don’t be these guys.
