Stowe, Vermont Lifts in New England have been making lots of headlines lately. In the past ten days, one chair fell to the ground at Attitash, and a mechanical issue caused a rope evacuation at Cannon Mountain. While not as severe of a situation, Stowe’s historic gondola entered the chat this week with an incident of its own.

Earlier this week, Reddit user @GrnmntVT shared a photo of a gondola without one of the large windows that typically shelter guests from the elements. The window reportedly fell out around the waterfall area of the journey. Luckily, no one was injured by the falling glass. In a comment asking about the situation, he described what they witnessed:

“It felt drafty inside. My wife saw a corner of it flapping in the wind. Then it just let loose and crashed downward. Not much of a seat to keep you in place.”

This was on the Mansfield Gondola that travels up Mt. Mansfield, not the Over Easy Transfer Gondola that connects the Mansfield base area to the Spruce Peak village. The cabin was likely taken off the line, as these types of lifts have a separate space for those carriers that need repairs. The Gondola remains open to the public.

Outside of this incident, Stowe’s had an excellent start to its season. So far this winter, the Vermont ski resort has received 226″ of snowfall. As of Wednesday morning, the Vermont ski resort has 126 of 127 trails open. Personally, I had a few great days skiing with some buddies at Stowe a few weeks ago, and no windows fell out during our visit.
