Terrain park rules.

The official terrain park social media team for Lake Louise Ski Resort has provided a friendly reminder to skiers and snowboarders on the proper use of rail takeoffs, or “lips”, found throughout the park.

A rail takeoff, or “lip”, is designed for skiers and snowboarders to access rails, boxes, and pipes. While they may appear like a fun little jump, for both safety and for the sake of keeping the terrain park crew’s work intact, they should not be used as such. Rail takeoffs are for rails, boxes, and pipes, not for quick airs.

A friendly reminder to all of our beloved park riders! Rail takeoffs, or “lips”, are intended to be ridden to slide the rail or box they are in front of. If you like air time, treat yourself to any one of our jump lines in Elbow park, Triple Bridge, Boulevard or Easy Street!” – Lake Louise Terrain Park

Each ski area/terrain park may have their own rules on etiquette and use of the park, so make sure you do your research before heading to a new mountain and make sure you respect all rules and guidelines posted. Your responsibility code still applies in the terrain park, but there are other etiquette rules that need to be followed.

Your Responsibility Code:

  1. Always stay in control. You must be able to stop or avoid people or objects.
  2. People ahead or downhill of you have the right-of-way. You must avoid them.
  3. Stop only where you are visible from above and do not restrict traffic.
  4. Look uphill and avoid others before starting downhill or entering a trail.
  5. You must prevent runaway equipment.
  6. Read and obey all signs, warnings, and hazard markings.
  7. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
  8. You must know how and be able to load, ride and unload lifts safely. If you need assistance, ask the lift attendant.
  9. Do not use lifts or terrain when impaired by alcohol or drugs.
  10. If you are involved in a collision or incident, share your contact information with each other and a ski area employee.
