Huesca, Spain — Last weekend, a shocking situation occurred at the Astún ski resort in Spain.
In what has been described as pulley failure, the Canal Roya quad chairlift collapsed at the Spanish ski resort. Around fifteen people were injured, with ten people taken to the hospital. On Monday, it was reported by the BBC that two individuals were still in intensive care, but their health was improving.
Since the incident occurred, a few videos have emerged from bystanders who witnessed the aftermath of the disaster.
The first video, which was shared by Hoy Aragón, shows people on the ground while some chairs were barely hanging above the ground. Some chairs sway back and forth as part of the aftermath of the collapse, while many people begin to jump off the chairs.
The second video, shared by Zaragoza Ciudad, shows the aftermath from the top terminal. Most notably, it shows that the top terminal’s bullwheel had fallen to the ground. A few chairs at the top had also fallen to the ground due to the bullwheel’s collapse. The final portion of the video shows the lift line, with some passengers still being stuck on the chairs. Dozens of guests had to be carried down by ski patrollers.
Since the incident occurred, the Astún ski resort has reopened.
