Parts of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula are in for some serious snowfall over the next few days, including the area around the legendary Mount Bohemia Ski Resort.
According to the National Weather Service, winter weather advisories are in effect for several areas of the state’s northern most region. In the western Gogebic County, an advisory in effect until midnight CST Monday night has between 1 and 10 inches of snowfall forecasted to hit the ground, including in the city of Ironwood. Along and north of M-28 and US-2 between Wakefield and Ironwood are expected to see the most snow.
Things are looking a bit wilder in Keweenaw, Northern Houghton, and Ontonagon Counties. Their winter weather advisory is in effect until 1am EST on Tuesday, with accumulations between 2 and 12 inches and wind gusts as high as 35mph. The high terrain of the Keweenaw and Porcupine Mountains are likely to see the most snowfall throughout the storm.
Travel may be quite difficult throughout these storms, and should be done with caution. Blowing snow could impact visibility, and Monday morning and evening commutes will likely see hazardous conditions.
Mount Bohemia, located in Mohawk, MI, has seen almost 98 inches of snowfall so far this season, including 10 inches in the last seven days. They have nearly 500 acres of terrain open, and the on and off lake effect snow expected this weekend is likely to make things even better.
