Michelle Dralle has lived in the Hyalite Foothills area near Bozeman, Montana for 35 years but she has never witnessed a wildlife sighting quite the one she experienced last Wednesday morning.
Michelle was having her morning cup of coffee when she looked out her window and saw a massive herd of elk crossing Cottonwood Road. Michelle quickly jumped in her car to get a closer perspective and managed to capture the perfect video of the mass migration.
Michelle estimated the number of elk she saw at somewhere around 1,000 but others say it was closer to 2,000. Michelle saw the same herd last year but it was only about half the size.
Elk in the area are often on the move in the winter months as they move from higher to lower elevations where there is less snow and more readily available food sources (Montana elk winter range is typically below 5,000 feet elevation).
