From the pages of the Summit County justice files we have another incidence of an on mountain assault in Colorado, this one involving flying saliva at Keystone. Yesterday we reported on a man who is accused of punching a ski coach at Steamboat and today a story has emerged about a snowboarder who allegedly spit on a skier at Keystone.
Here is the account of the nasty spitting dispute from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office who responded to the scene:
“Keystone Emergency Services reported that a snowboarder had spit on a skier in an altercation on the mountain.
Deputies made contact with a skier who advised he was skiing down the mountain with his daughters when they approached a choke point, since there were a lot of snowboarders down in that area his daughters stopped and he yelled out to them to keep going and get out of the way of other skiers.
A snowboarder ahead of them thought the skier was telling him to get out of the way so he confronted the skier. The skier claimed the snowboarder spit on his chest, however, the snowboarder said he was just spitting on the ground and did not spit on or towards the skier.
The argument was not physical and the skier did not want a report or charges and they parted ways.”
Although no one was injured in this altercation it is patently gross to spit on people and generally considered assault as it constitutes unwanted physical contact and can be seen as an act of aggression depending on local laws, often classified as a simple assault or battery.
