Excellent use of social media by The Steamboat Springs Police Department who posted a picture of man suspected of assault at Steamboat Resort to Facebook which led to his identification.
The Steamboat Pilot reports a Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club ski coach suffered a concussion after a man repeatedly punched him. The confrontation started when the man approached the coach on The Short Cut trail and started harassing him about where he was standing. The man started yelling and using curse words in front the kids he was instructing so the coach attempted to deescalate the situation while removing his class from the area.
The skier followed the coach and eventually caught up with him, grabbed him, and punched him three times. After the assault, the coach skied to the base with kids and reported the incident to Steamboat security. By that time the skier was gone but there was one thing left to identify him, a picture taken by the coach (not clear if it was taken before or after he got socked).
The Steamboat Springs Police Department posted the photo to their Facebook account and asked the public for help identifying the suspect. The guy was identified and officers are now working on a warrant for his arrest. His identity has not be made public.
“All parties involved have been identified. We appreciate the assistance.” –The Steamboat Springs Police Department
Cheers to The Steamboat Springs Police Department for tracking down the suspect and the members of the public who helped them get their man. Great work!
