Snowboarder collides with ski biker.

Responsibility in a collision on the ski mountain can get a bit complicated. Based on most mountain rules and the responsibility code, the uphill skier or rider is at fault. Okay, but what about when it’s side to side collisions, or what about when it’s a collision in the trees and visibility is heavily limited?

This collision that occurred at Breckenridge Resort in Colorado between a snowboarder and ski biker seems to be one of those more complicated collisions. Sure, the snowboarder was uphill, but the snow biker really does pop out of nowhere from behind a tree. So who’s fault is it really?

No matter who’s fault it is, it’s always good to stay cordial when possible. These guys both seem to be very nice to each other despite the collision, making sure they’re both okay rather than pointing fingers (which seems to happen in a major number of collisions these days). Obviously there are a lot of situations where someone behaved recklessly, but there’s also plenty of situations that were the fault of both people.
