Scenes from the grand opening of the new Seattle Ridge chairlift.

Ketchum, Idaho Sun Valley’s newest chairlift is now open.

On December 20th, Sun Valley Resort opened the new Seattle Ridge chairlift. This past offseason, Sun Valley Resort replaced the detachable high-speed quad chairlift that serviced Seattle Ridge. This new Doppelmayr six-pack high-speed chairlift carries 20% more passengers uphill than its predecessor. Seattle Ridge has a direct drive, meaning that it will be smooth and move swiftly yet quietly. The new chairlift services beginner and expert terrain, including the Sunrise expansion that opened back during the 2020-21 season. In addition, Sun Valley thinned out 91 acres in the Sunrise area for more tree skiing.

This is Sun Valley’s fourth chairlift addition in the past four years. The 2020-21 season saw the addition of the Broadway chairlift, while the 2023-24 season saw the opening of the new Challenger and Flying Squirrel chairs.

Currently, Sun Valley has 57 of its 114 trails and 10 lifts open. This lack of open terrain is due to the minimal natural snowfall this winter, which currently sits at 57 inches. However, Sun Valley has received 2 inches of snow in the last 24 hours, and is expecting more snowfall today.
