Just outside of Telluride, Colorado is the mining town of Alta, now an abandoned ghost town sitting at 11,800 feet. At most it was home to a few hundred people, serving as the center for mining activity at the Alta-Gold King area from 1877 to 1948. Beyond the town lie the Alta Lakes, a series of three high alpine lakes and where The Observatory at Alta Lakes backcountry cabin is located.
The Observatory at Alta Lakes offers a host of experiences year-round, including some remarkable backcountry skiing. But in the building’s backyard (or backwoods) is one of Colorado’s most famous ski features. An old, abandoned mining trestle that makes for one of the coolest gaps in North America. It has the ability to mix the old feeling of Colorado with some sweet jumps like very few places in the state.
Professional skier Bobby Brown spent a chunk of time filming at the iconic trestle, grabbing some sweet shots for his film White Gold. But he also released this sweet GoPro POV edit from the session.
“GoPro POV from our session at the Trestle in Telluride Colorado.“
If you’re curious, Brown is skiing on the Atomic Bent 120 and filming with the GoPro Hero 13 with the Max Mod.
