As the ski hills of America start to open one by one with limited early season terrain, it’s nice to remember the big lines that lay ahead for winter 2024/2025. Whether you taking a lift or accessing them by human power (or a combination of both) we encourage everyone to ski to your own skill set and ability.

With that said this line from the summit Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix, France is not for novices. Years of mountaineering and a high level of skiing are required to descend the iconic Passerelle Couloir but for those qualified, it can the quintessential Chamonix big mountain experience.

Tag along with International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA) certified Chamonix resident David Searle as he provides a step by step guide to the accessing and skiing the Passerelle Couloir. While this video is informative, David wants to remind viewers that it is “no substitute for learning these techniques directly from a guide and gaining real world experiences in a safe and progressive way.

The initial rope descent is now off limits and new line is available:

“This abseil is now banned by the Compagnie du Mont Blanc as it crosses over some high voltage electricity cables and also the wooden decking was getting destroyed by peoples crampons. I’ll try and update here when I have more information but for now you need to rappel down a new line which is placed by the climbing route “Vent du Dragon”
