PAKISTAN – K2 is a monster of a mountain. As the second tallest mountain in the world at 28,251 feet (8611 meters), it’s easily among the most difficult summits to access in the world. And yet people do it. Some people have even skied it. In 2009, Dave Watson became the first person to ski down K2’s “Bottleneck” couloir, one of the deadliest portions of the entire climb.
While Dave didn’t descend from K2’s summit (Andrzej Bargiel would eventually become the first to do so), his trip was still remarkable and well within the death zone. He began his ski near the top of the Bottleneck, above 8,200 meters. You can read more about his ascent and descent here.
