Retired Swedish alpine ski racer, 68-year-old Ingemar Stenmark, is widely regarded as one of the greatest in the history of the sport. Stenmark dominated in the 70s and 80s, winning 86 World Cup victories, three overall World Cup titles, and two gold medals in both the slalom and giant slalom at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid.
Stenmark was obviously talented with ski poles in his hands but it turns out he’s not too shabby with a pole vault pole as well. The ski racing legend recently competed at the World Masters Athletics Championships in the old harbor city of Gothenburg located on the Swedish west coast. In front of a home crowd, Stenmark cleared a 3.0 meter pole vault which put him in the 8th place of the men’s 65-69 age category.
Stenmark’s pole vault was a bit shy of fellow Swede Mondo Duplantis world record set in Paris but they are both impressive in their own ways. Cheers!
