Brock Johnson beats the bike surfing world record.

SANTA CRUZ, California – 19-year-old professional stunt rider Brock Johnson just broke a record you’ve probably never heard of. “Bike surfing”, in the world of BMX, is when a rider balances with one foot on the seat of their bike and one foot on the handlebars, and Johnson is among the best to ever do it. How do we know that for sure? Because he just broke the record for the longest bike surf by over 120 meters.

According to KSBW, Johnson, who rides with the Santa Cruz Maniacs, decided to break the official record when he learned it was just 80 meters, something he and his friends were certain he could do. For the record to count in the eyes of Guinness World Records, the attempt would have to be on a track at a sports facility, have two athletic officials timing everything, and have a cover letter + witnesses submitted to the company.

“I’ve seen him surf on his bike for 20 minutes straight, just pumping around. We’ve seen guys who claim to be the best bike surfers out there, and really, none of them compare to the stuff Brock can do on his bike.” – Phoenix Campbell, fellow cyclist.

Johnson’s original goal was to go 100 meters surfing on the bike, setting the new record. But he went further than planned, moving over 200 meters before completing his ride. Guinness World Records has to complete a formal review of the record before it’s 100% official, but it seems pretty set in stone from here.
