Altenmarkt, Austria — One of the world’s most popular ski brands was the victim of a years-long criminal scheme by one of its employees.

Snow Industry News reported last week that a 57-year-old man has been accused of stealing 1900 skis from Atomic. The former employee, who worked at their Atomic Pro Center in Altenmarket, was supposed to get rid of skis that had minor defects. However, he decided to sell them to people for roughly €50 a pair (around $54.60), which was well below the retail value. This scheme went on for a couple of years, generating a lot of money for him. It is believed that an accomplice was involved. The types of skis were not classified.

Authorities raided his home and found 300 skis that were part of the scheme. The individual faces criminal theft charges, which could result in up to three years in prison.

After discovering his crimes, Atomic Skiing conducted an inventory review and has begun to improve its security measures.
