It was a strange day for Hanser’s Automotive and U.S. Water Rescue Dive Team (both businesses based in Billings, Montana) when they got the call from Yellowstone National Park who needed recovering a SUV that was fully submerged in the Semi-Centennial Geyser.
The vehicle was occupied by 5 people when it accidentally drove off the road into the thermal geyser near Roaring Mountain (between Mammoth Hot Springs and Norris Junction) last Thursday. All 5 people were able to make it out under their own power and had non-life-threatening injuries.
With the people safe, then came the next problem: how the heck do you get a full sized SUV out of thermal feature known for its acidic and hot surface water temperatures, which can reach around 105 degrees Fahrenheit? You call a couple resourceful problem solvers in town and ask them to figure it out.
“The team did an incredible job today working in 101 degree air temp, 106 degree surface temp, and 116-120 bottom temp in acidic water. It was a pleasure and blessing working with all the other professionals on scene…. Big team effort that went very smoothly!” –U.S. Water Rescue Dive Team
Cheers to Hanser’s Automotive and U.S. Water Rescue Dive Team for their collaborative efforts safely retrieving the vehicle. It was a unique and challenging assignment for them both and they performed admirably. Thanks again to Hanser’s Automotive and U.S. Water Rescue Dive Team, you guys rock!
