The Vista Fire continues to burn in California.

SAN BERNARDINO NATIONAL FOREST, California â€“ The Vista Fire in California has reached 2936 acres with 47% containment, growing just a little more than 100 acres over the weekend. According to an update from InciWeb, containment lines were tested over the weekend, though firefighters were able to keep it mostly contained within its current footprint.

Although the fire is not doing a lot of movement, there are a lot of moving parts. We have new equipment out there doing great suppression repair work. A hotshot crew is spending the night in a rugged part of Cucamonga Wilderness and will be putting in handline while minimizing impacts to the natural environment.” – Nic Elmquist, Incident Commander trainee

Today, firefighters will focus on improvement of containment lines, patrols, and mop-up operations, while a self-sustained crew will be inserted in to the Cucamonga Wilderness by helicopter to construct fire lines on the southern end of the Vista fire.

The firefighter crews who worked overnight on the fire have completed their final shift and will now transition to daytime operations. The hard work and dedication of the night crews were paramount in achieving and maintaining containment and halting the fire’s advance during nighttime.

Mt. Baldy Resort was closed this past weekend, though no structures within the resort have been reported damaged. Several roads, campgrounds, picnic areas, trailheads, and dispersed recreation areas in San Bernardino National Forest and the Angeles National Forest are currently closed to the public. Additional information on those closures can be found at https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/sbnf/alerts-notices and https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/angeles/alerts-notices.
