YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — On Thursday, July 11th, at approximately 10:40 a.m., a SUV carrying five occupants accidentally veered off the road in Yellowstone National Park and landed in the Semi-Centennial Geyser thermal feature near Roaring Mountain, located between Mammoth Hot Springs and Norris Junction. All five individuals managed to exit the vehicle on their own and were subsequently transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Their injuries were non-life-threatening.

The following day park rangers temporarily closed both lanes of the road near the accident site to crane out the SUV from the thermal feature. The vehicle was found fully submerged in about nine feet of water.

The Semi-Centennial Geyser is known for its acidic and hot surface water temperatures, which can reach around 105 degrees Fahrenheit. The road was closed for approximately two hours before reopening.

Yellowstone National Park expressed gratitude to Hanser’s Automotive, the US Water Rescue Dive Team, HK Contractors, Resource Technologies Incorporated, and Yellowstone Park Service Stations for their swift and professional assistance in removing the car from the geyser. The incident is currently under investigation, and the park has no further details to provide at this time.
