Skiing La Plata Peak in mid-June

SAWATCH RANGE, Colorado – The 14ers of Colorado are legendary both for their summer/early fall hiking, and for their winter/early spring snow-covered mountaineering/skiing. YouTuber and skier Jake Kaiser took on La Plata Peak, which has an elevation of 14,360 feet, in late spring, taking a long approach for what looked like some pretty solid skiing.

In todays adventure I ski La Plata’s North Face for my last 14er ski descent of this season. I’ve been eyeing this face since last year and finally got to ski this beautiful line. La Plata is Colorado’s 5th highest peak at 14,343 feet and located in the heart of the Sawatch range. This day climb clocked in around 12 miles and 4400ft and I dropped down the north couloir at 9:15am where the snow conditions were pretty ideal.
