New Hartford, Connecticut- Skiers and riders have another chance to bring home a piece of skiing history until May 24th.
Last Friday, Ski Sundown started an auction for fifty of the old Exhibition chairs. The auction, which started on May 10th at 7:00 a.m. EST, will last until May 24th at 9:00 p.m. EST. The proceeds from these auctions will go towards Summit Adaptive Sports, Inc. and Sundown Ski Patrol, Inc., which are 501c3 non-profits.
The chair’s original auction price starts at $600, with increasing increments of $50. Alternatively, you can purchase some of the chairs for $1900. The chairs have the following specifications: a weight of 180 lbs, a height of 8’6″, a width of 5’5″, and a depth of 3 feet. If you win the chair, you must pick it up on-site on June 1st between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
This summer, the Exhibition Triple will be replaced with a new Skytrac quad chairlift. This new chairlift will have ninety chairs, a loading conveyer at the base terminal, a length of 1999 feet, and a carrying capacity of 2400 people per hour. It will have a ride time of 4.5 minutes and travel 450 feet per minute, faster than its predecessor’s 400 feet per minute. The old Exhibition chairlift, installed in 1977, was a fixed-grip triple chairlift manufactured by Borvig.
