BROOMFIELD, Colorado – A new way to navigate four Colorado ski resorts is coming next season, bringing an AI-powered (and expert-powered) assistant to several Vail owned slopes. According to a press release from Vail Resorts, “My Epic Assistant” will be available at Vail Mountain, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone, with plans to expand to more mountains in the future.

For more than a decade, we have been committed to improving the guest experience through the use of innovative technology. With the recent advancements in AI, we see an opportunity to provide real-time guest service so skiers and riders can navigate their day at our mountain resorts with confidence, efficiency and ease.” – Chris Smith, chief information officer at Vail Resorts.

The AI assistant, set to be a feature on the My Epic app for smartphones, will be able to assist guests with finding the latest snow conditions, rental locations, lesson times, and much more. The 24/7 support system will allow guests to simply open their phone and ask a question to the AI system, or they can choose to contact a real resort expert via chat or phone.

Possible questions for the AI system include “what runs are groomed today?”, “what time is Ski and Ride School drop off?”, “where can I get rentals?”, and “what are the lunch options on mountain?”. More information relating to the systems function is set to be released at the beginning of the 2024/25 ski season.

I think this is a pretty cool and helpful tool. Rather than having to dig through a resorts website or app, you can just ask a bot that can pull up the answer. Wondering if a specific run is open, but don’t want to dig through the entire list of trails and chairs? Just ask the bot! Obviously it doesn’t take that long to dig through a website, but if you’re trying to get it done just before getting of the lift, a quick answer could be super helpful!
