La Cañada Flintridge, California- You’ll probably be shocked to hear this, but Los Angeles County is close to several ski areas. The closest ski area to L.A. is Mt. Waterman, but its lack of recent lift-serviced skiing operations made many think its days were numbered.

That was until yesterday, as Mt. Waterman shockingly announced that they’re opening for skiing and riding this weekend. Because of the expected high winds, they plan on opening for half a day on Saturday. Mt. Waterman expects to operate for the full day on Sunday.

Last operating before the COVID-19 shutdown in 2020, Mt. Waterman has run into various issues over the past few years. Its Facebook page has become a comedic bit, as the ski area would announce they were preparing to open, something would pop up, and all the Facebook users would bring pitchforks out for the reactions and comments section. It got so bad that Mt. Waterman even limited comments on some of the posts.

So, if you’re in Los Angeles County this weekend, go shred at Mt. Waterman. Because if you don’t, you never know when you’ll have the chance to do that again. To paraphrase Warren Miller: If you don’t do it this year, you’ll be at least one year older when you do.”

Update 3/18: According to various guest reports, they reopened on Saturday, March 17th, and will also be open on Sunday, March 18th.
