Mt. Washington in New Hampshire has such an illustrious history, which makes it so easy to forget about various aspects of its past. One example is its snowcats, as one of the most historic ones nearly was completely scrapped.

WMUR reports that a snowcat from the 1950s was discovered at a scrapyard. It is now entering the process of being restored to its former state back from its glory days. Ultimately, their goal is to have it service Mt. Washington. The restoration process is expected to take a couple of years.

Back in the day, Snowcats like this were used to bring workers and researchers up and back down Mt. Washington. The Snowcat being refurbished was used by the WMTW news station. The Snowcat will be named Marty, after WMTW meteorologist Marty Engstrom. Also known as Marty on the Mountain, he passed away this past January.
