One of the most underrated ski areas in the Southwest is planning on adding a new chairlift for the 2024-25 season.

Last month, the Carson National Forest, which is part of the U.S. Forest Service, announced that they’re seeking public comments on a proposal from Red River to replace one of their chairlifts.

Red River Ski & Summer Area is planning to replace the Copper Chair, which is a fixed-grip double chairlift that was installed back in 1993, with a new fixed-grip triple chairlift. The chairlift would follow the same alignment, with the only potential difference being slightly moving the top terminal to improve skier circulation. The new chairlift would have an operating capacity of 1,800 passengers per hour, and have a length of around 4500 feet.

If the proposal is accepted, Red River aims to replace the Copper Chair during the spring and summer of 2024. This likely means they plan on opening it during the 2024-25 season.
